Recently, I’ve been paying attention to my eating habits a little more than I usually do. Don’t get me wrong, I normally work to eat a healthy diet, but with someone else depending on my food choices to grow and develop it makes me think a little more. (If you haven’t heard, I am expecting my first baby in October.)
This also made me think about my ‘cravings’ for sweets. I know we tend to be creatures of habit, myself included. I often (even more so lately) have the desire to have something sweet after dinner. It may not need to be something large, just a taste will do most of the time. Due to the frequency, it has made me wonder if it more of a habit than hunger or a craving- or addiction to sugar (but that’s another can of worms.)
This in turn made me think of what I can do to break the habit. After all, I want to make some changes and start some new healthy routines when the baby is here. This is often the key when trying to establish new behaviors. It is hard to attempt to not do something- creating a new routine can make things easier.
New After Dinner Routines to Try:
- Brush my teeth right after dinner.
- Have a cup of herbal tea.
- IF the craving is truly a craving have a planned small portion of a sweet.
- If hungry, have a piece of fruit.
- Frozen fruit smoothie.
- Read a book.
