Here are some ways to stay cool this summer:
Hydrate- The hotter it is outside the more we need to make sure we are getting plenty of fluids. By now you probably know you should be getting at least 8-8oz glasses of H2O, but that’s just a basic guideline. While it’s a good rule of thumb to strive for, it’s a one-size-fits all approach. Strive for even more especially in the summer heat and if you are active. You do get some hydration from foods, however, that alone is not enough.
Need a little flavor? Fresh lemons are always a fave, but try fresh mint, cucumbers or berries for something new.
Real fruit based popcicles can be a great way for kids to stay hydrated and cool.
Foods with high water content that can help you feel cool & stay hydrated:
- Green peppers
Opt for Shade- The sun’s strongest ray’s are from 9am-4pm. Be aware of reflecting objects even in the shade. If you are shaded but are next to a body of water reflecting, you can still get a sunburn.
Wear Light Colors and Breathable Fabrics- Typically more natural fabrics like cotton allow more air to flow through the weave than your man made polyester.
I hope you have a safe and fun 4th of July!
